Mina is the valley 5 km towards East of Makkah. During Hajj, it is mandatory for the pilgrims stay in the valley on the 8th of Dhu-al-Hajj and then from 10th to 13th of Dhu-al-Hajj. Mina has about 100,000 air-conditioned tents that temporarily accommodates visiting pilgrims. It connects to Jamarah, the location of the ritual of the stoning of the Shaitan. It is performed between sunrise and sunset on the stated days of Hajj. Mina is the place where pilgrims throw stones, commemorating the occasion when Prophet Ibrahim, was going to sacrifice his son Hazrat Ismail (as) to fulfill the order of Allah, the Shaitan (Iblees) came in his way to make him convince not to scarify his son. However, Prophet Ibrahim didn't bother and stoned the Shaitan until he ran away.
